Description
Antique Georgian engagement ring with approximately .15 carats of rose cut diamonds surrounding the pear center within a 14k yellow gold and silver setting. During the Georgian era, jewelers often used a mix of gold and silver because silver was considered the best metal to enhance the sparkle of diamonds and other light-colored gemstones, as it didn't cast a yellow tint like gold. Gold was used for parts of the ring not visible from the front (like the shank or backing) because it was more durable, resistant to tarnishing, and added luxury to the piece. Pearls were highly prized during the Georgian era for their natural beauty, rarity, and association with purity, wealth, and status.
