DescriptionÂ
Antique Edwardian engagement ring centered with a 0.72 carat Old European cut diamond and accented by 0.10 carats of diamonds in a platinum setting. From the top, the ring has the look of a classic Edwardian solitaire, with subtle engraving and diamond accents drawing the eye toward the center stone. The side profile, however, reveals much more of the craftsmanship: the diamond is raised within an intricately pierced platinum gallery, with a repeating pattern of open arches beneath the setting. This openwork construction was characteristic of Edwardian jewelry, when platinum allowed jewelers to create fine, detailed settings while still securely supporting the diamond. Hand-engraved details continue along the shoulders and shank, giving the ring something to discover from every angle. More than a century later, the detailed gallery remains one of the most distinctive features of this circa 1900 design.
